What Do Piling Contractors Do?

By John Schofield

Perhaps now that you want to build a bigger home or want to improve your present office building, you will surely need somebody to help you do so. For sure, you will need some construction engineers, masons, carpenters, steel workers, and concrete specialists. But probably you do not know that there are some significant people you really need before you require all these people apart from those mentioned, to work on your construction. These people are the piling contractors. So called because of the kind of job they do, piling contractors are the people who are experts in making a building’s foundations, beams, base foundations, and other structures that are required before the structure is set.

Piling jobs are not easy jobs. These are actually groundwork that needs important measurements and calculations by professionals who erect foundations for the whole structure. If piling works are not perfect, any building will likely to collapse once a strong earthquake occurs. That is why it can be very costly to set up quality foundations because you need the best piling contractors for this job. Your property and the lives of the people who will occupy your building are always at stake if you opt for contractors that are not professional.

Maybe as the owner of the building you do not know what piling means in the construction business so as an orientation about piling works better read on this. Piling is a technique that is used by piling contractors in setting up solid foundations for structures such as giant establishments, tall buildings building, tall structures and any building that would be huge in its built. The piling contractors will drive their back hoe and bulldozers into the ground to make large hole for the foundations. Piles of wood will be driven and embedded on some points of the hole to form enclosures for the concrete. This will be followed by the laying of steel and the pouring of concrete to form foundations. This process is called the ‘laying of the foundations’.

It sounds so simple, doesn’t it? But it is not as simple as it seems because before the piling contractors do all those things there are so many factors that they must consider first. They have to calculate the size, capacity and scope of the project before doing anything. They also have to check on the condition of the soil even digging deeply into the soil to know the condition of the ground underneath. They also have to consider the space required for rigging before the piling process starts. Piling contractors always rely on deep foundation and if there is the need for improvement of the present piling, they transfer the load of the structure to the deeper, stronger layer of the ground so that the foundations can have a high bearing capacity and will be very sturdy to carry the load and support the whole structure.

Piling contractors always have the usual materials with them. These are composed of wood, steel, concrete, steel-precast, concreted piles, steel sheet piles, timber piles, columns, and so on. However, not only the piling contractors do all the work. Alongside them are the geotechnical engineers, structural engineers, area contractors, site fitters and foremen. Every one of them including the construction workers will be doing their individual job just to build a strong building. There would be lots of planning, designing, streamlining, digging, piling and everything that is within the construction field. Now that you know what piling contractors do, maybe it’s time to appreciate their contribution to where you are now. Just remember that they keep us safe while we are inside the structures they helped to create.

Is Sedation Dentistry Safe?

Is Sedation Dentistry Safe?

by

Velma Cleghorn

Should you have fear and anxiety of dentist, worry no more simply because you can continue to visit the clinic to have your teeth treated regularly. You only need to find sedation dentist in Austin.

Sedation dentistry is the experts answer to individuals who, for some purposes, feel tensed even with just the thought of visiting the dentist but are in prompt need of dental remedy. They take mild anti-anxiety medicine through their mouth or they will be placed in deep sedation. Even with some people or groups questioning the basic safety of its use, sufferers bravely undergo this sort of dental method because for them they have no other recourse or else, they will still experience busted teeth, swollen gums and other teeth troubles.

The American Dental Association says sedating patients is safe; but they have to make certain that they only work with well-trained dental professionals to offer correct administration. For this reason, firmer sedation guidelines were issued. States also released permits to dentists to assure individuals that they only hire the services of a highly-qualified professional.

In case you have undergone procedure with a sedation dentist in Austin so he is capable of doing dental implant, you should make sure that a family member or a friend accompanies you. You can\’t drive or walk home alone mainly because you will feel dazed after taking the medicine. If you\’re taking other medication, make sure that you give this part of info to your teeth doctor again, for basic safety factors. Some medicines may carry effects to the sedation drugs.

Additionally, if you feel worried about experiencing sedation, you may talk about this with your dental professional. He will answer all your questions so you will feel more secure with the technique. If you have little doubt, delay it and think things over. Your dentist will not force you into one thing that you are unsure of. But at the end, he can assure you that it is safe and sound. He will evaluate your physical and health circumstances before he proceeds with the course of action.

Sedation dentistry has three levels: minimal, moderate (also called as conscious sedation), deep sedation and general anesthesia. With minimal sedation, you are wide awake; you see your dentist wearing his gloves and grabbing his instruments but you stay calm. With moderate sedation, you are still aware; you can follow dentist s instruction like open your mouth but soon as the effect of the drug disappeared, you will not recollect most of what has transpired. You may also slur your words and phrases as you speak. Deep sedation means you are still conscious — but not much. You can also be awakened in time to leave the dental clinic. With general anesthesia, you possess no consciousness. You have no idea about anything and you can only wake up after a certain time or after the effect of the drug is gone.

For some reasons, most insurance organizations have no dental coverage. You have to also consider this before going through sedation because this will absolutely boost your dental bills. But your sedation dentist in Austin may offer you this method at a lower or discounted rate.

46 illegal Afghan immigrants suffocate in truck in Pakistan

Tuesday, April 7, 2009

Correction — Nov 1, 2013 The article below claims each passenger paid 4000 to 8000 USD. Each paid 30,000 Rupees, equivilent at the time to about US$375.
Map of Quetta, Pakistan near the Afghanistan border.

The bodies of 46 Afghan illegal immigrants who suffocated to death in a container truck Saturday near Quetta, Pakistan, returned home Tuesday.

The Edhi Foundation placed the victim’s bodies into coffins to transport them back to Chaman. Funeral prayers were said before victims left Quetta hospital. “We are taking these dead bodies to Spin Boldak and later these will be flown to Kabul by helicopter. We are thankful to Pakistan government for every help,” said Afghan consul general Daud Mohsini.

Afghan officials received the bodies from The Edhi ambulances and Pakistan police escorts at the Pak-Afghan border Bab-e-Dosti (Friendship Gate). Security was high and traffic was backed up at the border crossing. The bodies were taken to Kandahar then to Kabul before they were laid to rest in their home towns.

Hamid Karzai, President of Afghanistan dispatched aircraft to Pakistan to bring home the 46 victims. Poor weather grounded the planes, and the bodies were driven back across the border.

Pakistan police found a locked truck packed with approximately 111 Afghan illegal immigrants around 20 kilometers (12 miles) south of Quetta on Saturday. The driver had fled the scene where 62 people were initially pronounced dead. Police said that from the strong smell emanating from the truck, the victims may have died days before they were discovered.

45 other people were found unconscious and taken directly to the hospital. At hospital two more migrants died. “The death toll is 46,” said Ghulam Dastagir, a police official.

Hamid Karzai, President of Afghanistan.

Wazir Khan Nasir, a senior police official said, “We have been able to talk to some of the people, who were trapped in the container. They were all Afghans in the container and the container was going to Iran, When the condition of people inside the container deteriorated, the driver fled, leaving the container.”

Survivors have reported that a human smuggling racket locked 64 Kabul residents and 37 Spin Boldak residents in the truck container Friday afternoon. The truck’s air conditioning unit stopped working causing the locked passengers to cry out for help which was unheeded by the truck’s driver, and they fell unconscious. However, the loud ruckus caused by the trapped people inside did alert police and local residents to their plight.

The trip had cost each illegal immigrant US$4,000 to 8,000 for the trip. Gul Zameen, a survivor said, “We are all poor and wanted to find jobs in Quetta and Iran.”

The survivors have been charged under the Foreigners Act and some have been detained. Karzai has ordered an investigation and “demanded people avoid dangerous illegal migration and not be deceived by smugglers.” “We’ll go to Pakistan and talk to the survivors to find out what had exactly happened. The culprits will be brought to justice,” said Moheeddin Baluch head of the investigating delegation.

Pakistan’s Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) is also investigating. Five suspects believed to be involved in running the human smuggling racket have been arrested.

Iran demands that IAEA end surveillance of its nuclear program

Tuesday, February 7, 2006

Symbol of the IAEA
Flag of Iran

Shortly after ending its cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the government of Iran has now ordered the IAEA to discontinue some of its surveillance of Iran’s nuclear facilities. Tehran has also asked the agency to remove any and all signage from their nuclear sites by the end of next week.

This is in response to the Saturday resolution by the IAEA to report Iran to the United Nations Security Council, which was made without waiting for the director of the IAEA, Mohamed ElBaradei, chairman of the IAEA, to finish preparing a report on Iran’s civilian (and allegedly military) nuclear programs for the regular IAEA meeting scheduled for March 6. ElBaradei had given Iran until March to answer IAEA questions. By a vote of 27 to three (with five abstentions), and without the information in ElBaradei’s report planned for March 2006, the IAEA recommended that the matter of the Iranian nuclear program be brought before the Security Council.

The recommendation claims that there are serious concerns about Iranian nuclear aims, and the agency does not have confidence that the program is intended solely for civilian or other non-military use. Although the meeting was taken without waiting for ElBaradei’s March report, the recommendation requests ElBaradei to make his report anyway, including a list of “steps Iran needs to take to dispel suspicions about its nuclear ambitions” by March 6.

The IAEA’s resolution calls for Iran to reinstate a freeze on its nuclear programs, consider ending construction of a plutonium-producing heavy water reactor, and to continue allowing the IAEA’s purposes and actions in Iran. However, the council will not implement any further action until ElBaradei makes his full report on March 6.

ElBaradei also reported to the IAEA Monday that Iran would also demand a reduction in the amount of facilities inspections from the agency, and that they would discontinue their agreement to the Additional Protocol of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) if the agency reported Iran to the Security Council. This protocol entitles the IAEA to hold unannounced inspections of facilities, increased surveillance capability, and placing IAEA seals on nuclear equipment.

Other diplomatic ventures are being planned. On February 16, Iranian officials will meet with the Russian government in Moscow to discuss the possibility of Russia enriching uranium for export to Iran in exchange for a halting of its nuclear enrichment program. And Wang Guangya, China’s ambassador to the UN, said Monday that “Even with the adoption of this IAEA resolution, it is the belief of most of the members there that a diplomatic solution is the way out within the framework of the IAEA.”

All major American TV networks show charity concert for Katrina victims

Saturday, September 10, 2005

On Friday, all six major American television networks; ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, WB, and UPN, along with most PBS stations, united in a rare show of solidarity to air a one hour charity concert called Shelter from the Storm: A Concert for the Gulf Coast.

The concert aired live at 8pm in the Eastern time zone and 7pm in the Central time zone and on tape-delay in the Mountain and Pacific time zones. It was also shown on the Internet and many cable networks such as USA, Bravo and G4.

The show was produced by Joel Gallen, the same man behind the September 11th tribute concert America: A Tribute to Heroes. The show was not censored for political statements but was for obscenities. Gallen did not expect any political statements. Last week, rapper Kayne West made a remark on an NBC charity show A Concert for Hurricane Relief, in which West claimed that “George Bush doesn’t care about black people.”, which caused controversy.

The concert began with Randy Newman singing “Louisana 1927.” Throughout the concert there were notable acts, such U2 performing “One” with Mary. J Blige. Another moment was Garth Brooks, Trisha Yearwood and the house band from The Late Show with David Letterman doing a cover of John Fogerty’s “Who’ll Stop The Rain”.

Donations were being solicited for the American Red Cross and the Salvation Army.

Telecom company AT&T provided toll-free calling and 10 call centers for the event and MCI provided volunteers from their call centers.

BET also held a charity concert called S.O.S (Saving OurSelves), a half-hour before cutting to the main one.

MTV, MTV Overdrive, VH1 and CMT will air a charity show Saturday called ReAct Now: Music & Relief.
